Discussion:

According to the teachings of Bing Qiu, vomiting blood can arise from three main causes: internal bleeding (nei niu), lung abscess (fei ju), or damage to the stomach (shang wei).

  1. Internal bleeding presents as blood that comes from the body but not through the nose, similar to a nosebleed.
  2. Lung abscesses produce large quantities of blood when the lungs are affected.
  3. Stomach damage happens when overeating or coldness in the stomach prevents digestion, leading to vomiting of blood and fluids.

When symptoms include discomfort, restlessness, and the inability to digest food, the patient may feel so distressed that they cannot lie still. In such cases, immediate treatment is required to induce vomiting.

Urgent Vomiting Formula:

  • Ingredients: Melon Stalk (Guadi) (3 fen), Du Heng, Ginseng (1 fen each).

Grind these three ingredients into a fine powder. Take 1 qian with water. If the patient is weak, reduce the dosage slightly. This formula helps induce vomiting, expelling greenish-yellow fluids or blood, even up to 2 liters.
